Mission of the Prophet

The restoration of The Church of Jesus Christ in the latter days was predicted by prophets in both The Bible and The Book of Mormon. After the death of our Savior the apostle Peter proclaimed that Christ should return again in connection with a restoration of all things:

"And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began." ( Acts. 3:20-21 )

The Prophet Isaiah predicted that the Lord, in the latter days, would proceed to do a marvellous work and a wonder among the children of men:

"Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid." ( Isaiah 29:14 )

Prophets in The Book of Mormon as well predicted that the Lord in the latter days would set his hand again the second time to do a marvellous work and a wonder:

"And the Lord will set his hand again the second time to restore his people from their lost and fallen state. Wherefore, he will proceed to do a marvelous work and a wonder among the children of men."( 2. Nephi 25:17 )

Mission of the Prophet

"The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it." (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, 3:3).
